The Belton Girls basketball varsity team fell in their district opener against Texas 5A state-ranked Chaparral High School 75-21 Tuesday night. The score did not tell the whole story. The tigers played tough half court defense that forced the Bobcats to rely on their transition points to create the large gap. Tyler Waldrep and Alivia Jackson played physical on the inside to take care of Chaparral's typical lead scorers. Avelle Bonfoh came down with crucial rebounds and Ella Tucek, a freshman new to the varsity level, handled the pressure well. The Tigers played hard to the last buzzer. The Tigers have their district home opener on Friday against Killeen Shoemaker.
