You would not have known that the Girls Varsity team hadn't played a game in a week in a half if you watched their two pool games on Day 1 of the Bastrop Holiday Tournament. The Tigers lost two nail biters, both by only 1 point. In game one, against Austin Anderson, the tigers fell just short when Anderson finished a buzzer beater lay up at the end of regulation to take the lead and finish the game 40-39. In that first game, Avelle Bonfoh led the Tigers with 18 points and 5 other teammates added points to the board, including Ke'ara Shanks who had 6. In game 2, against the host team Bastrop High School, the tigers took them to over time! Falling just short, losing 43-42, the Tigers know that these games were still steps forward. In game two, scoring came from 7 tigers with Emma Flory leading her teammates with 14 points and Tyler Waldrep with 9. Mykel Green was a defensive standout and across the board, all girls worked hard. With Belton's two best offensive games, the girls will enter day two with confidence as they take on East Memorial in the White Bracket at 9am. A second game will be played at either 12 or 1:30 depending on the result of the morning's game.
