On Friday January 3rd, the Belton Girls Basketball team took on the Lake Belton Broncos for the first district game of the season.The game initially started off slow with Lake Belton having a small lead over the Tigers throughout the first quarter and midway through the second quarter where Lake Belton took a ten point lead over the Tigers.

Coming into the second half the Broncos took the biggest lead of the game which was 16 points. With many points coming from the paint.
After being being down for so long, the tigers had started a scoring run on the broncos, led by Laila Huston and Genny Nelson, getting their points in the paint and in transition. Genny Nelson had hit four solid free throws in the 4th quarter to shorted the lead.

Unfortunately the scoring run wasn’t enough for the Tigers and took the first loss in district 40-37, led by Laila Huston with 14 pts, Genny Nelson with 11 points and Hannah Martinez with six points in the paint. Hannah Martinez, Kadence Morales, Jada Gage and Genny Nelson all came through with offensive rebounds to help bring back the tigers.

The Tigers take on Waco University on Monday January, 7th at home at 5 pm.
