The Belton Tigers traveled to Temple High School on Wednesday to compete in the Temple Wildcat Invitational. After a short week, these athletes showed up and worked hard to make the Tiger community proud.
The ten lifters we took ranged in weight classes from the 114s to the 242s and seven could bring medals home. The Tigers finished with two first-place, 2 second-place, two third-place, and one fourth-place medals. In the end, we finished in a tie for third place with a team total of thirty-two points.
In the 114 weight class, Daniel Arana took home the gold with a total of 815 pounds which was 100 pounds higher than the second-place competitor. Daniel improved on all his lifts from the previous week and set a high mark to chase a spot in the regional meet. Corbin Wittman also competed in the 114 weight class and totaled 610 pounds and that was good enough to get third. We are proud of Corbin and the improvements that he is making and each week the totals just keep climbing. Owen Rivera was our only athlete to compete in the 123 weight class and was able to post a total of 620 pounds and earn a second. Owen's weights in each of his lifts improved from the last meet and we see big gains in his future.
Coming off a first-place finish last week Logan Ricks was able to post a total of 1135 pounds in the 165 weight class and bring home second place. It is very exciting to see Logan attack the racks and challenge the weight. We know that not repeating was not what he wanted, but he is setting himself up great for a regional run. Hayden Holman and Ashton Spiller competed in the 220 weight class and both were able to bring home medals. Hayden total of 1035 pounds and was able to bring home first place while Ashton brought home third with a total of 935 pounds. We enjoy watching these two compete and help each other get ready from lift to lift.
Our biggest weight class to compete was the 242s. Christian Griffith was able to battle to a total of 805 pounds and earn a fourth-place finish. This was Chirstian's second meet and has set new highs each week.
Next Saturday the Tigers will be traveling to Cameron High School to compete and set new PRs.
