B SOC Grizzly Classic Tournament Recap
The Tigers fought hard against tough competition all weekend long. We played against three quality opponents that taught us a lot about ourselves. We are able to compete with anyone, but have yet to put together a full 80 minutes of play. We are grateful to have this short time off for us to get rested, healthy, and better prepared for district.
Below is a recap off all three games:
January 11th – Belton vs Cornerstone
Cornerstone scored the first goal of the match within 15 minutes of play. The Tigers had a bunch of uncharacteristic mistakes that led to the Cornerstone goal. Cornerstone then scored their 2nd of the match with a shot from outside the box that beat us near post. The Tigers came out swinging in the 2nd half with a goal from Jorge Hernandez. We had great effort and constant pressure on Cornerstone, but could not find the equalizing goal in time.
Final: Belton 1 Cornerstone 2
January 12th – Belton vs Rockwall
It was another windy day at Glenn. The Tigers took the wind in the first half, but could not put any of their chances away. Rockwall was able to score off a beautiful shot that we could only watch. The second half, we defended excellently against the wind, and held them scoreless.
Final: Belton 0 Rockwall 1
January 13th – Belton vs Leander Glenn
Glenn was coming into the game undefeated and the Tigers came out hot. We had multiple chances on goal in the first 10 minutes, but could not find a breakthrough. After the 15 minutes of great play by the Tigers, Glenn was able to score off a counterattack. Our heads dropped unfortunately and we quickly let in 2 more goals that half. The second half, the Tigers held them scoreless, while fighting against the wind.
Final: Belton 0 Leander Glenn 3
