The Tigers took to the road this past Saturday for the Yoemen Invitational in Cameron Texas. We had eight young men get up early on a cold January morning to go and show off the growth they have made this season.
In the 114-pound weight class, we had two lifters compete and both came home with medals. Corbin Wittman posted a total of 610 pounds and fought hard to finish second. Anthony Anderson also competed in this weight class and was able to bring home third with a total of 490 pounds. This was Anthony's first meet and showed real promise for what he has coming down the road. Owen RIvera competed in the 123 weight class and had a really good day posting a new season high of 665 pounds. Owen set a new personal best in all three lifts and only missed one of his nine attempts. The 665 total was enough for Owen to bring home third in his weight class.
Logan Ricks was our only first-place finisher this week and once again raised the bar on what we think he can do for the rest of the season. His total of 1150 pounds was enough the win the 165 weight class by forty pounds. Kevin Alafa was our only 181 lifter and posted a total of 1180. This number was good enough to tie for first place in the class, but due to a tiebreaker on body weight, Kevin brought home second. Hayden Hourany was another one of our lifters who was competing in his first powerlifting meet. Hayden put some impressive numbers in the 220-pound weight class. He was able to post a total of 1350 pounds and this was good enough to take home second place. This total jumped Hayden to second place in the region.
The Yoemen Invitational was a great meet that allowed us to compete against some very strong lifters who pushed our boys to a new level. With only having eight lifters getting six of them to medal was pretty special. Next weekend we will be traveling to Waco University for the Andrew Billings Invitational Meet.
