This past weekend the Tigers traveled to Copperas Cove to compete in the Bulldawg Classic. From sun up to sun down our boys competed hard alongside the one hundred and fifty male athletes in twelve different weight classes.
In the 114 weight class, Anthony Anderson once again increased his total to 515 pounds and was able to get another 4th-place finish. Owen Rivera was also able to get 4th place in the 123 weight class with a total of 720 pounds. This was Owen's first time to break the 700-pound level.
With another first, Gino Zecca was able to break into the 1000-pound club with his 1000-pound total weight. Gino set new high marks in all three lifts. Gino came up a little short of the medals with an 8th-place finish in the 148 weight class.
Giani Zecca and Thomas Morter competed in the 165 weight class and both improved on their season totals. Giani finished with a total of 1030 pounds and came close to a medal, but finished in 6th place. Thomas totaled out at 635 pounds and finished in 11th place.
In the 181 weight class, Kevin Alafa tied his season best of 1195 pounds and held off other competitors to get 2nd. Kevin had some difficulty with the deadlift and was not able to break into the 1200-pound club.
Christian Griffith rounded out our athletes and competed in the 242 weight class. Christian once again increased his total weight to 995 pounds. We are looking for great things from him next year.
Right now we have six athletes that have big opportunities to make it to the regional meet in March. Our next opportunity to compete and show what they have done will be at the Lake Belton Last Chance Meet in two weeks.
