This past Saturday the Belton Tigers traveled to Joshua High School to compete in the Region 2 Powerlifting Meet. Junior Daniel Arana, Freshmen Corbin Wittman, and Owen Rivera all qualified for the regional meet,
These three did everything that you could ask from young men competing at the biggest meet of the season. Each set new personal bests in all three lifts. We had two lifters in the 114 weight class and one in the 123 weight class.
In the 114 weight class, Daniel Arana combined his 300-pound squat, 225-pound bench, and 355-pound deadlift to an 880 total that was enough to bring home fourth in the weight class. The fourth-place medal was awesome to bring home, but the 880 total was enough to qualify for the State Meet in two weeks. Corbin was able to set new highs or 330-pound squat, 155-pound bench press, and 250-pound deadlift totaling 705 pounds which is twenty-five pounds from his previous high. Owen Rivera competed in the 123 weight class and combined his 300-pound squat, 200-pound bench, and 290-pound deadlift to a 790-pound total which is 60 pounds higher than his previous best.
Tiger Nation should be proud of these young men and the show they put on last Saturday. As coaches all we can is ask is for the athletes to step up when they are called upon. THese young men all lifted more weight then they have ever and as coaches, we were able to leave Joshua High School proud of these young men.
