The Tigers made the trip south to Hendrickson High School on Wednesday night to open up their 2024 season. The Tigers started out fast with great coverage on the opening kickoff and backing the Hawks up into their endzone. Two plays later, the Tigers pressure was able to get to the Hawks quarterback and cause a safety, after a bad snap which gave the Tigers the lead 2-0. The game was then suspended for roughly an hour due lightning. When the game resumed, each team traded offensive possessions until the Hawks were able to connect on a deep ball to take the lead 2-6. The following possession saw the Tigers make a key mistake and fumbled the ball on a pitch, where the Hawks were able to recover the fumble and return it for a touchdown, extending the hawks lead 2-12 going into halftime. After halftime, the Tigers came up with a renewed passion thanks to a huge kickoff return by Kaleb Chaney. The Tiger offense drove the ball down and got with in the five yard line before turning the ball over on downs. The Tiger Defense however made the best of the the opportunity with the Hawks backed up and were able to record a second safety on the night to bring the Tigers back with-in one score with a score of 4-12. After a few back and forth possessions the Hawks were able to pin the Tigers on the two yard line with a good punt and on the next play the Hawks were able to record their own safety after the Tigers were flagged for an intentional grounding penalty in the endzone bring the score to 4-14.
Standouts for the Tigers were Kaleb Chaney who recorded an interception, Jack Camboia, James Barrera, and Lyric McGinnis who held the Hawks running attack at bay and finally the Tigers front four on the Defensive line who were able to get pressure on the Hawks QB throughout the night.
The Tigers will be back in action next Thursday 9/5 at Georgetown High School to take on the Eagles at 6:30.
