The Tigers took the trip down I-35 to take on the Waco University Trojans in a Thursday Night JV Region 3 District 10 Showdown. It was a defensive slugfest for the majority of the night with both teams being stunned by the opposing defenses. The Trojans struck first after taking advantage of Tigers fumble to set up a short field and take the lead 0-6. The Tigers managed to grab a takeaway right before halftime when Kaleb Chaney intercepted the Trojans quarterback. The Tigers took halftime to regroup and get back on track to make their comeback in the second half. The 3rd quarter flew by with each team taking shots to try and take over the game however the game stayed at the same score 0-6 heading into the 4th quarter. The Tigers offense came alive in the 4th quarter and were able to move the ball down the field and but the ball in the endzone on a long run by Landon Owens which was set up by a great block by Tim Cox. Tigers went for 2 on the next play and were able to convert thanks to a great pass by Asa Thomas and a good catch by Landon Owens to put the Tigers firmly in the lead 8-6 with 2 minutes remaining on the clock. The Tigers defense was relentless to close out the game recording 3 sacks on the Final Trojans drive and set up a 4th and very long for the Trojans which the Tigers were able to stop well short of a first down and take the victory 8-6!
Major Players for the Tigers offense during the game were Landon Owens, Tim Cox, Asa Thomas, and Carson Cheatham. The Tigers Defense had players set up all over the defense and make big plays. The Front four for the Tigers had sack and TFLs coming from Gavin Warne, Matthew Fimbres, Alexander Phillips, and Jaden Rardin. The Tiger Linebackers who stepped up and had great games were Jack Camboia, Alex Matos, and James Barrera. The Tigers secondary who locked up the Trojan receivers were Kaleb Chaney, Eli Chaney, Isaiah Robertson, Amani House, and Tyrell Adams.
The Tigers will be back in action next Thursday October 24th at Tiger Field to take on the Rudder Rangers!
